Amritsar, Oct 23: Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) on Wednesday arrested four key operatives of a cross-border weapons smuggling network and recovered four sophisticated .30 bore Star-mark pistols along with ammunition, officials said.
The arrested have been identified as Jugraj Singh alias Chiri of Bhagwanpura village, Tarn Taran; Kulbir Singh alias Nannu alias Kalu and Arshdeep Singh, both of Daliri village, Tarn Taran; and Nachattar Singh of Dialpur village, Tarn Taran.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were acting under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler who was orchestrating the movement of weapons into Punjab via drones. “Further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in this case to dismantle the entire network,” he said.
AIG SSOC Amritsar, Sukhminder Singh Mann, said police acted on reliable inputs regarding the retrieval of a weapon consignment. “Police teams apprehended the four suspects and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession,” he said.
Mann added that the main accused, Jugraj Singh, was previously arrested in a drug-related case in June 2025 and had spent around two months in jail. The arrested individuals will be produced in court as per legal procedure.
This development comes shortly after SSOC Amritsar dismantled a similar smuggling module, arresting five people and recovering four Glock pistols along with two kilograms of heroin. An FIR (No. 62) has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at SSOC Police Station, Amritsar.
