Chandigarh/Amritsar, November 7: An intelligence-driven operation targeting Punjab’s ongoing drive to become a drug-free state – Amritsar police have busted two drug supply modules linked to Pakistan-based handlers, arresting two key operatives and recovering a total of 2.815 kg of Methamphetamine, commonly known as ICE, officials said on Friday.
The arrested men have been identified as Gursevak Singh alias Sevak, a resident of Gharyala village in Tarn Taran, and Baljit Singh from Guru Nanakpura in Amritsar. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in regular contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through virtual numbers, coordinating the pickup and delivery of consignments. “They often chose delivery points near religious sites to avoid suspicion,” he added.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar provided details of the operations. “Based on specific intelligence, a checkpoint was set up near Dana Mandi, where Gursevak Singh was apprehended with 40 grams of ICE. A follow-up operation led to the recovery of an additional 1.96 kg,” Bhullar said.
In the second operation, police acting on reliable information arrested Baljit Singh near Ryan International School on Vallah Bypass Road, recovering 45 grams of ICE initially, with a further 770 grams recovered following his disclosure.
CP Bhullar said investigations are ongoing to identify cross-border handlers, trace supply routes, and dismantle the entire distribution chain operating between Punjab and Pakistan. Separate FIRs have been registered at Gate Hakima and Maqboolpura police stations under the NDPS Act.
