Chandigarh, March 4 – Punjab Police will soon deploy cutting-edge anti-drone technology to counter transborder drug smuggling, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said Tuesday.
The decision follows a demonstration at PCA Stadium, Mullanpur, where three companies showcased advanced anti-drone solutions. Cheema, along with Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and DGP Gaurav Yadav, attended the event alongside senior civil and police officials.
Cheema said the showcased technologies included portable, mobile, and stationary systems capable of intercepting drones at various distances.
“These systems will disrupt drone movements and break the cross-border drug supply chain,” he said, adding that the initiative is part of the state’s Yudh Nashe De Virudh campaign.
He credited CM Bhagwant Mann for approving the procurement of these technologies from public and private firms, stating that Punjab Police experts, in consultation with central security agencies, would finalize the most effective systems.
Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, responding to a media query, said that while securing the 50-km border zone is the BSF’s responsibility, its efforts have not been entirely successful.
“This initiative will further strengthen Punjab’s second line of defense against cross-border threats, particularly narco-terrorism,” he said.
He added that the state has launched a comprehensive crackdown on drug traffickers and assured no shortage of funds for security.
“This campaign aligns with the vision of CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal,” Arora said.
