Chandigarh, March 17: Punjab Police has set a two-year tenure limit for MHCs (Munshis) at any police station or unit, aiming to enhance efficiency and accountability, following the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The order, issued by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday, states that MHCs cannot serve at one location beyond two years and must be transferred thereafter.

The directive is effective immediately, with strict compliance required, and violations subject to disciplinary action.

DGP Yadav termed the move a “purely administrative” decision to create a more dynamic and responsive policing system.

MHC refers to Moharrir Head Constable, commonly known as Munshi, who handles records, case files, and administrative duties at a police station.

The decision to limit their tenure ensures transparency, prevents monopolization of authority, and promotes professional rotation within the force, according to police.
