Sangrur, March 18 —The Sangrur police, acting on administrative orders, demolished two houses in Ram Basti on Tuesday, targeting alleged drug traffickers with multiple criminal cases. The accused were not present during the demolition, which was carried out under the Punjab government’s “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” (war against drugs) campaign.

The properties were reportedly built on illegally encroached land. According to Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal, the targeted individuals have a long history of drug-related offenses. “These individuals have been involved in drug trafficking for several years. The demolition was carried out to enforce administrative orders against illegal encroachment,” he said.

The first house belonged to Rajpal Singh and his wife Rajwinder Kaur, who have 11 FIRs against them. Rajpal faces seven cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while Rajwinder has four. The second property was owned by Lakhwinder Kaur, alias Lakho, who has four NDPS cases against her.

Police records show that Rajpal and Rajwinder have been facing FIRs since 2017, while Lakhwinder Kaur’s cases date back to 2018. All three are currently out on bail.

During the demolition, police deployed personnel to maintain law and order. The operation is part of a broader effort to disrupt the infrastructure supporting drug networks in Punjab.
