Chandigarh, Feb 15: Punjab Police have moved to freeze the international assets of 61 high-profile gangsters. The Bureau of Investigation (BOI) is currently processing requests for Interpol “Silver Notices,” a newly implemented color-coded alert specifically designed to track and seize criminal proceeds across borders. Unlike the traditional Red Notice used for arrests, the Silver Notice focuses on hitting the financial foundations of crime by locating properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts linked to illicit activities.
Director of BOI, ADGP LK Yadav, noted that this tool allows for the global recovery of assets similar to domestic seizures under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. He affirmed that the Silver Notice is a potent tool to block the financial power and network of these elements. The state’s top brass maintained that this move is essential to dismantling the support systems of criminals who coordinate extortions and targeted killings from abroad.
The initiative falls under the broader “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign, which has seen intensified enforcement through missions like Operation Prahar. DGP Gaurav Yadav declared 2026 as the “Year against gangsters,” asserting that the police will not leave any space for these elements. He directly said that the entire network will be eliminated, while also vowing to block attempts by cross-border agencies to fuel local unrest.
