CHANDIGARH, May 10 – Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday directed the release of additional water to Rajasthan in response to a request for supporting military deployments near the border.
The request came from the Rajasthan government, seeking supplementary water from Punjab’s quota to meet the increased logistical and operational needs of the armed forces stationed in the region.
“Rajasthan asked for more water due to military necessity, and we have released it without hesitation,” Mann said in a statement issued from Chandigarh. “Whenever the question of national interest arises, Punjab does not stay behind.”
The Chief Minister said the release was made keeping in mind the urgent needs of the Indian Army and reaffirmed Punjab’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the country’s integrity and sovereignty.
“This is not just about water—Punjabis are ready to give blood for our brave soldiers,” Mann said. “Punjab has never stepped back when it comes to the nation.”
Calling it a matter of duty and honour, Mann noted that the state’s support to the armed forces reflects the deep-rooted patriotism of its people.
“The protection of the country’s unity and sovereignty is our foremost priority. That is why I ordered the immediate release of additional water,” he added.
This move comes amid heightened tensions along India’s western borders, where military preparedness has surged following recent ceasefire violations.
Punjab’s decision to share water with Rajasthan reinforces inter-state cooperation in times of national security concerns, with officials viewing it as an example of federal solidarity in critical moments.
The Chief Minister concluded his remarks by saying the people of Punjab stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the armed forces and will continue to support every effort that strengthens India’s defence.
