Patiala, May 11 — Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, senior IAS officer and administrative secretary Mohammad Tayyab on Sunday led a high-level review meeting in Patiala to assess the district’s preparedness for any war-like situation.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Vinay Bublani, Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav, and Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma. It focused on evaluating readiness to respond to possible airstrikes, drone attacks, and other security threats.
Tayyab, deputed by the Punjab government to monitor the region, assured officials that the administration is on high alert and committed to safeguarding citizens. “The Punjab government is fully prepared to protect lives and property. I urge the public to remain calm and not fall for rumours or misinformation circulating on social media,” he said.
He instructed district officials to ensure uninterrupted functioning of key services, including healthcare, civil supplies, electricity, water, transportation, and education. Tayyab called for seamless coordination among civil, military, and intelligence agencies to minimize disruption to public life.
Stressing the importance of accurate and timely communication, Tayyab urged the administration to counter fake news swiftly and monitor anti-social and anti-national elements. “The dissemination of official advisories must be consistent to prevent panic,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav briefed the team on civil defence measures, including mock drills, identification of safe shelters and high-rise buildings, and protocols for crash blackouts and siren alerts.
SSP Varun Sharma detailed enhanced surveillance measures, including checks on suspicious individuals, security audits of accommodations such as hotels, dharamshalas, and shelters, and the secure movement of defence personnel.
The meeting reaffirmed the state’s resolve to maintain order and ensure public safety amid the ongoing cross-border hostilities.
