Punjab Sets Up 22 Sector Committees to Shape New Industrial Policy

Chandigarh, July 17: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab on Thursday announced the formation of 22 sector-specific committees aimed at driving industrial growth and reform across the state.

Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora said each committee will be led by a prominent industry expert from the respective sector and will advise the government on the fiscal and non-fiscal incentives needed to boost investment and streamline operations.

“These committees have been given 45 days to submit their inputs. Based on their recommendations, we aim to move quickly and unveil a comprehensive, forward-looking industrial policy,” Arora said.

Among the focus areas are auto and auto parts manufacturing, electric vehicles, pharmaceuticals, agri-food processing, sports goods, and textiles—with three separate panels dedicated to the textile industry alone.

The announcement builds on earlier efforts under the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy, 2022, which was aimed at improving ease of doing business but failed to generate the level of private investment the state had anticipated.

In response, the state launched the Punjab Udyog Kranti initiative earlier this year, offering time-bound clearances within 45 days, a unified single-window online system for business applications, and enhanced support for MSMEs and startups.

The initiative identifies 14 manufacturing and seven service sectors as critical to Punjab’s industrial resurgence. With these committees now in place, the government hopes to bridge policy gaps and respond more effectively to the needs of investors and entrepreneurs.
