Chandigarh, July 21: Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian declared that the state administration has replaced thirty-five complex revenue terms in property registration documents with commonly understood Punjabi words. The minister maintained that the initiative, approved under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aims to make public services more transparent, accessible, and citizen-friendly. He affirmed that traditional administrative terminology often created unnecessary confusion for ordinary individuals dealing with land-related paperwork.
Following instructions from the Chief Minister, the revenue and rehabilitation department constituted a specialized committee to evaluate existing language and recommend accessible alternatives. Based on the panel’s findings, the government substituted long-used technical, Persian, and Urdu expressions with familiar Punjabi vocabulary. Minister Mundian asserted that the primary objective of the exercise is to ensure that no citizen encounters difficulty in interpreting official land or property records.
Under the revised framework, traditional terms have been updated to align with everyday language across all registration offices. Terms such as Arazi have been changed to Zameen, Sakin to Vasneek, Hiba to Daan, and Bainama to Vikri Nama. Additionally, Dakhil Kharij is now replaced by Intkaal, Fard by Nakal Jamabandi, Mushtarka by Sanjha, and Mansookh Karna by Radd Karna. Minister Mundian affirmed that the Inspector General of Registration and all Deputy Commissioners have been directed to enforce the updated vocabulary on a priority basis across the state.
