Punjab Sports University welcomes new Vice-Chancellor in Patiala

Academic experience and athletic background reflected in Dr. Gill’s appointment

Patiala, Feb 9: The Punjab government has appointed Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill as the Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, with the noted academician taking charge on Monday. The move has been welcomed by local leadership as a step toward revitalizing the state’s sporting culture and providing better opportunities for local talent.

MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli, who attended the joining ceremony, praised the selection of a veteran academic for the post. He noted that the leadership change would help the institution fulfill its core mission of athletic excellence.

“The Punjab government has appointed a highly experienced academician as the Vice-Chancellor,” Kohli mentioned. “The Sports University will now reach even greater heights.”

Dr. Gill emphasized that his primary focus would be the empowerment of athletes to steer the youth away from social evils. He noted that the university’s efforts would complement the ongoing construction of village stadiums across Punjab.

“The Punjab government, especially Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, have assured me of all possible support for the university,” Dr. Gill said.

The event was attended by a large gathering of dignitaries, including University Registrar Dr. Anubhav Walia, Padma Shri Pran Sabharwal, and representatives from the Punjabi University Teachers Association (PUTA). Dr. Gill concluded by stating his commitment to justifying the confidence placed in him by the Chief Minister and the state administration.
