Chandigarh, March 28 — Punjab will commission six working women hostels by 2026, Minister for Social Security and Women and Child Welfare Dr Baljit Kaur announced in the Vidhan Sabha on Friday.

Responding to a query from Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh during Question Hour, she said the hostels would provide accommodation to at least 800 working women.

“Three hostels are coming up in Mohali (SAS Nagar) and one each in Amritsar, Bathinda, and Jalandhar. These projects are being developed under the Nirbhaya scheme and the Special Capital Assistance to States scheme of the Centre,” she said.

In Mohali, the hostels will be located at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Phase I, a five-acre GMADA plot in Sector 66, and a site in Sector 79.

Meanwhile, AAP MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj accused the government of failing to curb illegal buses despite claiming otherwise.

She alleged that several operators, including Fatehgarh, Dhaliwal, Ghuman, and New Fatehgarh Bus Services, were still running buses on unauthorized routes after paying nominal fines.

Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, while providing a list of routes and fines imposed, refuted the claim. “Almost all illegal routes have been plugged. Still, if you have any specific complaints, let me know,” he said.
