Chandigarh, April 3 — Punjab will inaugurate upgraded schools every day for two months starting April 7, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at a function in Ludhiana, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders mentioned that schools transformed into Schools of Eminence and other upgraded institutions will be part of the inauguration drive. They invited citizens to contribute ideas for improving education, stating that public participation is key to meaningful reform.

‘Padhda Punjab’ Vision and Key Achievements
Reaffirming their commitment to Padhda Punjab (Literate Punjab), Bains and Sisodia said the state is ensuring modern classrooms, well-trained teachers, and free coaching for competitive exams for 6.2 million students in government and private schools.

Bains highlighted that in the last three years, Punjab established 117 Schools of Eminence, raised the pass percentage above 92%, built 6,200 new classrooms, and renovated 4,700 existing ones. The government recruited 10,487 teachers, regularized 12,316 educators, and introduced international training programs, sending teachers to Singapore and Finland.

Besides, 90% of schools now have wireless internet, 128 provide transport services, and 1.8 lakh desks have been distributed. The government has also hired 1,777 security guards and 1,809 campus managers while constructing 10,095 new toilets.

One of the key achievements, Bains noted, is student success in competitive exams, with 189 students clearing the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) this year.
