Chandigarh, March 7 — Punjab has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to integrate drug awareness into the school curriculum, with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Punjabi University Patiala, and the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) Patiala collaborating on the initiative. The agreement was signed at the office of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
DGP Gaurav Yadav called the initiative a key move in Punjab’s efforts to combat drug addiction, stating that education plays a crucial role in sustaining anti-drug measures after supply chains are disrupted.
Under the MoU, EMRC Patiala will create digital content for the awareness program, while Punjabi University will manage its implementation. The content will be developed with input from ANTF Punjab and experts in academic, medical, and legal fields, with an editorial board ensuring quality and accuracy.
Initially, the course will be available for students from ninth to twelfth grade before becoming a mandatory part of the ninth-grade curriculum. The program will include 10 hours of video content divided into 20 modules, along with a supplementary booklet in Punjabi and English.
Set to launch in the upcoming academic session, the initiative aims to strengthen Punjab’s fight against drug abuse by educating students early.
