Patiala, April 10: Punjab’s Cabinet Minister for Industries and Commerce Sanjeev Arora announced on Friday that the state government will implement a new Industrial Park Policy within the next month to accelerate economic development. Speaking during a district-level meeting for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Patiala, Arora stated that the upcoming policy would facilitate the development of large industrial parks covering at least 25 acres through a joint collaboration between developers and entrepreneurs.
Arora affirmed that the state is prioritizing the MSME sector, which he described as the backbone of industrial progress. Under the New Industrial Policy 2026, the government has expanded its scope to include sectors such as hospitals, hotels, and film studios. The minister maintained that investors would benefit from a streamlined registration process and a more efficient system for obtaining project approvals.
In addition to industrial reforms, Arora declared a major infrastructure push, noting that 2120 kilometers of urban roads will be constructed by the end of May at an estimated cost of ₹1300 crore. He asserted that a separate infrastructure plan is being finalized for rural areas. Arora also directed the Local Government Department to prioritize cleanliness and the improvement of sewerage systems, stating that providing basic civic amenities remains a top priority for the administration.
Addressing agricultural concerns, the minister affirmed that the government remains committed to protecting the interests of farmers, especially during times of natural calamity or crop loss. He declared that the administration will take strict action against individuals involved in the sale of counterfeit seeds. On the power front, Arora maintained that the shift toward the power board issuing its own solar tenders has proven highly successful compared to previous allocation models.
