Punjab to observe complete ban on meat, liquor, tobacco sales along Nagar Kirtan routes

Chandigarh, October 20: To commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the Punjab government will organise four major Nagar Kirtans traversing all districts before culminating at Sri Anandpur Sahib. The state has ordered complete closure of meat, liquor and tobacco shops along all the routes during the processions.

Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in each district have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of these orders. The Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department has taken charge of coordinating the events.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Tourism Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund, and Advisor Deepak Bali finalised the schedule and route maps with senior officials. The detailed outlines will be circulated to all districts to ensure compliance with religious norms and administrative discipline.

The first Nagar Kirtan will begin from Srinagar on November 19, passing through Jammu, Pathankot and Hoshiarpur before reaching Sri Anandpur Sahib. The second will start from Gurdaspur on November 20 and travel through major cities including Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar and Ropar.

The third will commence from Faridkot on November 20, covering Ferozepur, Ludhiana and Fatehgarh Sahib. The fourth will set out from Talwandi Sabo on November 19 and reach Sri Anandpur Sahib via Bathinda, Sangrur, Patiala and Mohali by November 22.
