Chandigarh, November 15: The Punjab government has indicated that it will soon provide smartphones to Anganwadi Workers and Helpers, a long-pending demand aimed at improving reporting and service delivery at the ground level. The assurance was given by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur during a meeting with representatives of Anganwadi unions at the Punjab Civil Secretariat on Friday.

Officials said the government is examining other key demands as well, including a revision of honorariums, an increase in mobile allowances and service-related benefits. According to Dr. Kaur, issues that fall within the department’s scope will be addressed quickly, while matters requiring cabinet approval will be placed before the government.

The minister also said that the recruitment process for vacant posts of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers is nearing completion, a move expected to ease workload and strengthen field services.

Union members who attended the meeting said the government has recently cleared several pending issues, including salary arrears and rule amendments to allow dependent appointments in case of death or medical incapacity of serving workers.

Senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Pratap and Director Sheena Aggarwal were present in the meeting.
