Amritsar, September 19: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Friday arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Talwinder Singh of Police Station-A Division, Amritsar, while he was allegedly accepting a ₹5,000 bribe.
An official spokesperson said the officer was caught red-handed after a trap was laid by the VB Amritsar range team, acting on a complaint from a local resident. Two official witnesses were present during the operation.
According to the complaint, the police had registered a case against a hotel and confiscated its mobile phones and DVR. The complainant, who was looking after the hotel, alleged that the ASI initially demanded ₹50,000 to return the seized items but later agreed to settle the matter for ₹30,000. The officer had already received ₹16,000 as the first instalment and was accepting another ₹5,000 when he was apprehended.
