Punjabis Shine in British Columbia’s New Government

Victoria, 20 November 2024: British Columbia’s newly elected Premier David Eby has announced his cabinet, prominently featuring four Punjabi leaders, including a woman, in key positions. This marks a significant achievement for the Punjabi community in Canada.

Nikki Sharma: Re-elected from Vancouver-Hastings, Nikki Sharma has been named Deputy Premier and Attorney General. Previously, she served as Attorney General in the Eby government.

Ravi Kahlon: Ravi Kahlon, MLA from Delta North since 2017, has been appointed Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. He also held cabinet roles in the previous NDP government.

Ravi Singh Parmar: Representing Langford-Juan de Fuca, Parmar takes charge as Forest Minister. At 27, he is the youngest MLA in British Columbia.

Jagrup Brar: A veteran MLA from Surrey-Fleetwood, Brar has been inducted as Minister for Mines and Minerals in his sixth term.

In total, the cabinet includes 23 ministers, 4 ministers of state, and 14 parliamentary secretaries. Key appointments include JC Sunnar as Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Apartheid Initiatives, Harvinder Sandhu for Agriculture, and Sunita Dhir for International Credibility.
