CHANDIGARH, April 6 — On April 5, 2026, the Punjab government highlighted the transformative impact of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, a health initiative providing ₹10 lakh in yearly coverage to millions of residents. The program, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is credited with encouraging patients to seek hospital care sooner, resulting in a gradual increase in early-stage diagnoses for chronic conditions like diabetes and cancer.
The World Health Organization has noted that non-communicable diseases are responsible for approximately 75 percent of global deaths annually, often striking individuals who are unaware of their risks. In Punjab, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana addresses this by covering a vast array of specialized treatments. Statistics from the state health agency show that over ₹59 crore has already been disbursed to hospitals for processed admissions, ranging from neonatal care to complex geriatric interventions.
Minister Balbir Singh maintained that the scheme is a vital part of a broader push to strengthen the state’s healthcare framework. He declared that the administration is working continuously to ensure that medical urgency is met with immediate action rather than financial indecision. The minister affirmed that as the enrollment drive gains momentum, the focus is shifting toward targeted awareness campaigns to help beneficiaries understand the full scope of their coverage.
Despite the success of the financial protection model, health officials declared that preventive care remains a priority gap to bridge. Data from the National Family Health Survey suggests that basic screening rates remain low among rural populations. Consequently, the state is combining the financial security of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana with a renewed focus on regular check-ups to detect silent illnesses before they reach advanced stages, ensuring a more resilient and prepared population.
