Abohar, April 7: The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY) has emerged as a critical lifeline for families across Punjab, providing specialized medical care to over 6,000 newborns within the last quarter. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the initiative offers up to 10 lakh in annual cashless insurance, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent infants from receiving life-saving interventions.

The impact of the scheme was recently noted by the case of four-month-old Diljot from Abohar, who was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect and a severe infection. Her father, Bharat Kumar, who operates a small salon, stated that the specialized cardiac care and monitoring his daughter received in Bathinda cost 2.77 lakh, all of which was covered by the state’s healthcare card. Kumar affirmed that the financial support allowed the family to focus entirely on their child’s recovery rather than the daunting hospital bills.

“The doctors told me my daughter has a hole in the heart,” Bharat Kumar affirmed. “She was treated at two different hospitals, and the Sehat Card fully covered bills amounting to 2.77 lakhs.”

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh noted that the department is actively conducting village-level programs to encourage early check-ups and reduce delays in treatment. Statistics from the past three months indicate that the scheme is successfully addressing complications such as premature birth, low birth weight, and respiratory distress. Officials maintained that by covering both government and empanelled private hospitals, the government is ensuring that high-quality neonatal care is accessible to every section of society.
