Chandigarh, Dec. 4 — Punjab’s Raj Bhavan has been renamed Lok Bhavan, Punjab, following a directive from the Union Home Ministry to replace colonial-era titles with more public-focused names. The Governor’s Secretariat announced that the change takes immediate effect.
The November 25 advisory from the Ministry of Home Affairs asked all states and Union Territories to adopt names that reflect service, accessibility, and democratic values. The shift aligns with recent national rebranding decisions, including renaming Rajpath as Kartavya Path, the prime minister’s residence as Lok Kalyan Marg, and the PMO complex as Seva Teerth.
With the notification in place, “Lok Bhavan” will now appear across all official communication, signage and records, marking a significant identity change for the Governor’s establishment in Punjab.
