SITAMARHI, Aug. 28 — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday charged that nearly 65 lakh voters, largely from poor and marginalised communities, have been removed from Bihar’s electoral rolls.
Speaking at a public meeting in Sitamarhi under the Voter Adhikar Yatra, Gandhi accused the BJP and the Election Commission of working together to disenfranchise people ahead of the state polls. “They have already stolen votes in Maharashtra, Haryana and Karnataka. Now they want to do the same in Bihar. We will not allow them to succeed,” he said.
The Congress leader described the deletions as an assault on democracy and promised to release additional proof of what he called “vote chori” in the coming months.
Earlier, Gandhi offered prayers at the Janaki Temple before addressing the gathering. Bihar is set to hold assembly elections later this year.
