New Delhi, 15 January 2025: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raised serious concerns about the transparency of India’s electoral system on Wednesday, citing issues in the recently held assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.

Speaking at the inauguration of the party’s new headquarters, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged significant irregularities in the electoral process.

Gandhi questioned the Election Commission’s refusal to provide voter lists containing the names and addresses of those who voted in the Maharashtra and Haryana elections, claiming the commission is obligated to maintain transparency. He also pointed out the sudden emergence of nearly one crore new voters in Maharashtra during the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, calling it a troubling development.

Addressing Congress workers, Gandhi said, “Don’t think we are fighting a neutral fight. This isn’t just against BJP and RSS; they have captured almost every institution in the country. We are now battling the entire system.” He expressed dissatisfaction with the way the Election Commission is functioning, reiterating that his party has raised valid concerns about the conduct of the Maharashtra elections.

The Congress leader underlined that safeguarding electoral transparency is the duty of the Election Commission, urging reforms to address the alleged deficiencies in the system.
