CHANDIGARH, June 6 – Setting the groundwork for a major internal overhaul in Haryana, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched the party’s ‘Sangathan Srujan Abhiyan’, a campaign aimed at structural rejuvenation and ending years of factional drift.

At the first round of consultations, Gandhi met 17 senior leaders, including former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan, AICC in-charge BK Hariprasad, and MPs Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala, to discuss feedback on rebuilding the party’s organisational machinery.

In a surprise appearance, Ashok Tanwar, a former state Congress chief who had briefly joined the BJP, also attended the meeting after rejoining the party.

Plagued by deep internal divisions and lacking a structured leadership since 2014, the Haryana Congress suffered a poor performance in the 2024 Assembly polls, prompting the need for urgent reform.

Later in the day, Gandhi is scheduled to interact with 22 district observers to plan the first phase of elections for district presidents, marking the beginning of grassroots-level reconstruction.
