NEW DELHI, Nov 28 — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent amid Delhi’s worsening air pollution and demanded a detailed parliamentary discussion on the issue.
Gandhi met several mothers at his residence and shared a video of their conversation. “Every mother I meet tells me the same thing: her child is growing up breathing toxic air. They are exhausted, scared and angry,” he said.
“Modi ji, India’s children are choking in front of us. How can you stay silent? Why does your government show no urgency, no plan, no accountability?” Gandhi wrote on X, calling for a strict, enforceable action plan to tackle the “health emergency.”
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha added, “Our children deserve clean air — not excuses and distractions.”
Delhi has faced very poor air quality for the past 15 days, and forecasts suggest it will remain in the ‘very poor’ category in the coming week. Health experts have warned that prolonged exposure can trigger airway inflammation, reduce lung function, and aggravate pre-existing cardiac or respiratory conditions. Doctors recommend regular diagnostic screenings, especially for children, smokers, asthma patients, and vulnerable populations.
