DARBHANGA, May 15: A major political row erupted on Thursday after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was stopped by police from entering the Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, where he was scheduled to interact with students as part of the Congress’s ‘Shiksha Nyay Samvad’ initiative.

Congress leaders accused the JDU-BJP coalition government in Bihar of acting in a “dictatorial” manner and suppressing voices of social justice.

Taking to social media, Rahul Gandhi said: “India is a democracy, governed by the Constitution, not dictatorship. No one can stop us from raising our voice for education and justice.”

In a video shared online, Gandhi is seen telling officials, “You do your work. Stop us. We will do our work.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge termed the incident “the height of dictatorship,” questioning whether meeting Dalit and backward-class students was now a crime in Bihar.

Priyanka Gandhi also condemned the move, calling it a “shameful, cowardly act” and said the people of Bihar would not tolerate the suppression of democratic rights.

Senior Congress leaders staged protests outside the hostel, demanding that Rahul be allowed to meet the students. The state government has not yet issued a formal statement on the incident.
