POONCH, May 24 — Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will travel to Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday to meet families impacted by recent Pakistani shelling, senior Congress leaders confirmed Friday.
Congress national general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir said Gandhi’s visit aims to stand with those who lost loved ones in the shelling incident.
“Rahul Gandhi is visiting Poonch to meet the families affected by Pakistani shelling,” Mir stated. “He wants to extend solidarity with the bereaved families.”
The visit was also announced by AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh, who shared the update on social media platform X.
“Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri @RahulGandhi will be visiting Poonch tomorrow, May 24, to meet the families bereaved during the shelling by Pakistan very recently,” Ramesh posted.
This visit comes less than a month after Gandhi traveled to Srinagar on April 25, where he met with those injured in the Pahalgam terror attack. According to Ramesh, the Congress leader also held meetings with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister during that trip, engaging with various stakeholders on the security and humanitarian situation in the region.
