SHIMLA, Apr 19 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather alert for Himachal Pradesh, forecasting light to moderate rain across most of the state, with isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hail expected from tonight until the morning of April 21.
Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall between midnight and the same hour on Saturday. The weather office also predicted hailstorms in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi and Shimla districts during this period.
The higher reaches of Chamba and Kullu, as well as Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts, may witness intense precipitation spells from tonight through midday on April 21, said the IMD.
Moderate rain is also expected at scattered locations in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan and Sirmaur districts through the evening and night of April 20. Most tourist destinations in the state are likely to witness showers from tonight until the morning of April 21.
The weather department has advised residents and tourists to stay alert and exercise caution during the adverse weather conditions.
