NEW DELHI, Dec. 10 — Rajya Sabha MP Rajinder Gupta has been nominated to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles and Skill Development, placing the veteran industrialist on a panel that oversees major policy decisions in sectors central to India’s economy.

Gupta, founder and chairman emeritus of the Trident Group, is known for his decades of experience in manufacturing, global trade and workforce development. His appointment is expected to bring industry-driven perspective to ongoing debates on labour reforms, textile competitiveness and nationwide skilling initiatives.

“It is an important responsibility, and I look forward to contributing industry insights to the national policy framework,” Gupta said in a brief statement.

The nomination comes at a time when the textile sector is grappling with tariff pressures from the United States and a broader push to strengthen training systems for both skilled and unskilled workers. Officials familiar with the committee’s agenda said Gupta’s background could help bridge gaps between policy intent and on-ground industry needs.
