New Delhi, India (Feb. 13) — The Rajya Sabha was briefly adjourned on Thursday following a heated reaction from Opposition members after a joint parliamentary committee report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was tabled.

The report, submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on January 30, was presented by BJP member Medha Vishram Kulkarni, a panel member, triggering immediate dissent among Opposition benches.

The moment the report was tabled, Opposition members raised their voices in protest. The disturbance escalated as Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar attempted to restore order by reading a message from the President.

“Don’t show disrespect to the president of India…” Dhankhar said, urging Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to direct his colleagues to resume their seats.

Amid the continuing clamour, the Upper House was adjourned for ten minutes, with proceedings resuming at 11:20 a.m., officials said.
