Ayodhya, 12 February 2025: Mahant Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, passed away on Wednesday at a hospital in Lucknow, sources said. He was 85.

Das had been undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) after suffering a brain stroke earlier this month.

He dedicated his life to serving the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, having assumed the role of head priest at the age of 20.

His tenure spanned decades, including the tumultuous events of December 6, 1992, when the Babri Masjid was demolished.

Temple authorities and devotees expressed deep sorrow over his passing, remembering him as a committed spiritual figure who remained devoted to his service for over six decades.
