Raman Arora booked in new case after bail

Jalandhar, September 4: Barely a day after securing bail in a corruption case, Congress MLA Raman Arora faces fresh trouble with police registering an extortion case against him in Jalandhar.

A senior police officer said the case was lodged at Rama Mandi police station on August 30 following a complaint by a private institution. “The procedure of his arrest will be completed after his release from Nabha jail on Thursday, and he will be produced before a local court the same day,” the official said.

Arora had been behind bars since May 23 after the Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested him in a graft case along with Municipal Corporation officials — Assistant Town Planner Sukhdev Singh and Inspector Harpreet Kaur. The Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail in that matter on Wednesday.

The Vigilance Bureau has also booked Arora’s son in connection with the same case, though he has obtained anticipatory bail from court.
