Dubai, April 3: Authorities in Dubai have instructed the temporary closure of major non-Muslim places of worship, including the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara and prominent Hindu temples, citing safety and security reasons. The directive, effective from Friday, April 3, 2026, has led to an immediate suspension of all in-person gatherings until further notice.

The Community Development Authority issued the guidance as a precautionary measure, impacting the Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai and the Hindu Temple Dubai alongside the Sikh shrine. Management for these institutions apologized for the sudden disruption, asking the community for cooperation during the service suspension.

“The gurdwara had received instructions to close from the Community Development Authority,” affirmed Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai. He maintained that the decision was taken as a proactive step to ensure the security of all devotees.

The timing of the closures coincided with Good Friday, forcing several churches across the city to cancel traditional services. While some congregations moved their observances to digital platforms, many individuals who were unaware of the announcement were seen gathered in prayer outside the locked gates of various churches.

Temple administrators stated that the facilities would remain inaccessible to the public until clearance is provided by local officials. “The temple will remain closed until further notice,” a representative for the Hindu Temple Dubai declared, adding that the safety of the congregation remains the primary priority.
