Retired Professor Found Murdered in Morni Forest

Panchkula, July 8 — The body of a 62-year-old retired professor who had gone missing from Aerocity, Mohali, on July 3 was found in the dense forests of Morni, near Panchkula, on Monday. Police believe the killing was motivated by a long-standing property dispute.

The victim, Amarjeet Sihag, originally from Sirsa, Haryana, had been residing in Aerocity. His disappearance sparked a search after his son, Rahul, lodged a missing person complaint, prompting police to register a case of kidnapping.

During the course of investigation, police arrested two men — Vikram Singh of Mansa and Balwinder Singh of Muktsar — both tenants of the deceased in Aerocity. Interrogation of the duo led authorities to the Morni forest, where Sihag’s body was eventually recovered.

Inspector Satwinder Singh, SHO of the Aerocity police station, confirmed the arrests. “We initially registered a case of kidnapping. After recovering the body and based on the confessions of the accused, we have added charges of murder under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” he said.

Police sources said the two suspects had an ongoing property-related dispute with Sihag, which may have escalated into the kidnapping and murder.

Further investigation is underway to determine if more individuals were involved in the crime or assisted in disposing of the body.
