RJD fields 143 candidates for Bihar Assembly, 5 against allies

Patna, October 20: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) released its list of 143 candidates for the Bihar Assembly polls on Monday, confirming that five of them would contest against other members of the INDIA bloc. The announcement came shortly before the final deadline for filing nominations in the second phase.

Speculation that RJD might contest the Kutumba seat — held by state Congress chief Rajesh Kumar Ram — was put to rest, avoiding a potential clash between alliance partners.

Nonetheless, the party will face the Congress in Vaishali, Lalganj, and Kahalgaon, while taking on the Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP), led by former state minister Mukesh Sahni, in Tarapur and Gaura Boram.

Political analysts say the move signals RJD’s focus on maximising its electoral presence while managing delicate alliance dynamics in key constituencies ahead of the polls.
