Chandigarh, Jan 24: Over 4,100 road accident victims across Haryana received medical care without upfront costs last year through a specialized federal initiative. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reported that 4,179 individuals utilized the Cashless Free Treatment Scheme throughout 2025, ensuring rapid medical intervention following traffic mishaps.
The program provides each injured person with free treatment valued at up to Rs 1.5 lakh. This coverage remains valid for a maximum of seven days starting from the moment the accident occurs. To facilitate this wide-reaching support, the state government has empanelled 1,228 hospitals to provide immediate assistance.
“Making roads safer for the public is among the top priorities of the police, and efforts were being made through effective strategies to reduce accidents,” Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal said.
The legal framework for this assistance is rooted in Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act. When an accident occurs, the victim is transported to the nearest participating facility. The hospital administration then manages the administrative process by uploading the victim’s details and notifying the relevant local police station to verify the claim.
