FARIDKOT, Dec 13— A sensational highway robbery complaint filed by a vegetable vendor in Faridkot has taken a dramatic turn, with police now booking the complainant himself in the same case after finding the alleged loot of Rs 2.15 lakh was fabricated.
Kulwant Singh had reported that four men impersonating police officers robbed him near Koharwala village three days ago. Acting on the complaint, police registered an FIR under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested the four accused.
However, investigations later revealed that while the men had intercepted Kulwant’s vehicle and searched it while posing as police personnel, no cash was taken, said Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Pragya Jain.
“During questioning, it came to light that the robbery claim was false,” Jain said. “The vendor admitted that he fabricated the story to ensure strict action against the youths who had harassed him.”
Police said Kulwant and his friend Rajwinder Singh had decided to lodge a robbery complaint after noting the vehicle number of the accused. Rajwinder has also been booked for assisting in giving false information to the police.
As a result, both the complainant and the alleged impersonators now figure as accused in the same FIR, creating an unusual legal situation for investigators.
