Rohtak, Oct 11: Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarniya was replaced on Friday, four days after the family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar demanded action following his death by suicide at his Sector 11 residence. Surinder Singh Bhoria has been appointed as the new SP, while Bijarniya’s next posting will be announced separately, according to an official order issued by the Haryana Government.
The family, after recovering the suicide note left by Kumar, had initially called for the immediate arrest of the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) and the Rohtak SP. “We wanted those responsible to be held accountable immediately,” a family member said.
However, sources familiar with the matter noted that after the FIR was registered, the family modified their demand. Instead of pressing for arrests, they requested that the two senior officers be removed from their positions and sent on long leave.
Government officials who met with the family on Thursday conveyed that immediate removal was unlikely but agreed to consider the request after permission for the post-mortem was granted. “We assured the family that their concerns would be reviewed as soon as formalities like the post-mortem were completed,” said one senior government officer.
With the family consenting to the post-mortem on Friday morning, the state government issued the transfer order for Bijarniya, seen as a partial fulfillment of the family’s demand.
The case continues to draw attention, highlighting concerns over administrative accountability in sensitive investigations involving senior police officers.
