On Friday, Russian Ambassador Alexandr Matsegora hosted a reception in Pyongyang to celebrate the upcoming 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and North Korea, state media reported Saturday.
The event was held in the presence of North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui.
Both countries have bolstered military and strategic cooperation since North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a summit in June. The summit resulted in a new treaty that includes a mutual defense clause, further deepening their bilateral ties.
Choe praised the growing relationship, calling it a “comprehensive strategic partnership” and “invincible comradely relations.” She expressed confidence in Russia’s ability to defend its sovereignty under Putin’s leadership.
Ambassador Matsegora also emphasized the rapid development of cooperation in multiple fields, noting that the treaty has elevated their partnership to the highest level.
Choe’s participation in the event signals North Korea’s focus on its relationship with Russia, particularly as Pyongyang skipped major celebrations marking 75 years of diplomatic relations with China earlier this year.
