Amritsar/Chandigarh, 21 February 2025— The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday announced the completion of its membership distribution process, reporting that 33 lakh forms had been handed out, surpassing the initial target of 25 lakh. The party’s parliamentary board, led by working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar, noted the strong response from leaders and workers.

A press release stated that an additional eight lakh forms were printed to meet demand, with distribution extending beyond Punjab to other states. The party confirmed the process proceeded smoothly.

SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said district and state observers must submit membership copies to the party headquarters by February 25, along with the names of circle delegates who assisted in enrollment.

“Following this, elections for district delegates and the party president will take place, with the presidential election set for March 1,” Cheema said.

However, an Akal Takht-appointed committee overseeing the membership drive has objected, stating it was not conducted in line with the institution’s expectations.

The committee, formed on December 2, has urged the Akal Takht to intervene. Two senior members, including committee head Harjinder Singh Dhami and former SGPC chief Balwinder Singh Bhundar, have resigned in protest.
