New Delhi, 21 February 2025— A Delhi court on Friday reserved its order on the quantum of sentence for former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, setting February 25 as the date for the ruling.
During the hearing, the complainant, whose husband and son were killed by a mob allegedly incited by Kumar, urged the court to impose the death penalty. The plea was submitted through her lawyer before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja.
“The accused, as the leader of the mobs, incited others to commit genocide, crimes against humanity, and cold-blooded murders. He deserves nothing less than capital punishment,” senior advocate H.S. Phoolka, representing the complainant, told the court.
The court directed Kumar’s counsel to submit a written response within two days.
