Chandigarh, April 24: Aam Aadmi Party senior leader Sanjay Singh on Friday characterized the defection of party lawmakers to the BJP as a coordinated effort to destabilize the Punjab government through “Operation Lotus.” Speaking at a press conference, Singh affirmed that the move represents a betrayal of the electorate, asserting that the lawmakers have backstabbed the citizens of Punjab by joining a party with a minimal political footprint in the state.

The Rajya Sabha member stated that the recent shift in allegiance was not a voluntary choice but the result of sustained pressure from central investigative agencies. Singh specifically pointed to the timing of the transition for Ashok Mittal, noting that the move occurred shortly after raids were conducted at Mittal’s properties. This is a misuse of power, Singh declared, maintaining that the BJP is attempting to weaken the party after failing to compete with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s people-centric reforms.

National convener Arvind Kejriwal echoed these sentiments in a social media post, stating that the BJP has once again given Punjabis a shove. Singh further questioned the integrity of the defecting leaders, asking how they expected to bring about positive change by joining an organization that introduced the controversial farm laws. He affirmed that the Mann government remains secure and that the public will recognize these actions as an attempt to undermine the state’s democratic choice.
