Chandigarh, July 3 — Sanjeev Arora, the newly elected MLA from Ludhiana West, was inducted into the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Cabinet on Thursday, marking the seventh ministerial expansion of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government since it assumed office over three years ago.
Arora took the oath of office and secrecy at a brief ceremony held at Punjab Raj Bhawan, administered by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Dressed in a yellow kurta-pyjama — a colour closely associated with the AAP — Arora took his oath in fluent Punjabi.
Though his ministerial portfolio has not yet been announced, sources suggest it is likely to be one that caters to urban voters, a demographic he represents in Ludhiana.
The ceremony, conducted by Punjab Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, lasted just six minutes. It opened and concluded with the National Anthem, with the Governor administering the oath in between.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his wife Gurpreet Kaur Mann, and several Cabinet ministers and dignitaries were in attendance to witness the swearing-in.
Arora’s elevation reflects the Mann government’s continued efforts to strengthen its ministerial team as it navigates urban governance and the run-up to future electoral challenges.
