New Delhi, August 21: Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha was on Thursday appointed Commissioner of Delhi Police, a day after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked in the capital.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the appointment in an official order. Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer, replaces SBK Singh, who had been holding additional charge since July 31 following the retirement of Sanjay Arora.

Golcha is currently serving as Director General of Tihar Jail. Over his three-decade career, he has held key posts in the force, including Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Special Commissioner (Intelligence), DCP and Joint CP in Delhi Police. He also served as the Director General of Police in Arunachal Pradesh.

Officials said his appointment comes at a crucial time as the city police faces heightened scrutiny following Wednesday’s incident involving the Chief Minister.
