SC Allows Ranveer Allahbadia to Resume Podcast With Restrictions

New Delhi, 3 March — The Supreme Court on Monday permitted podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia to continue airing The Ranveer Show, provided it adheres to “morality and decency” and remains suitable for all audiences. The court also extended his interim protection from arrest until further orders, directing him to cooperate with the investigation in Guwahati.

A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh noted Allahbadia’s plea that his podcast was his primary source of income and that around 280 employees depended on it.

Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre and the states of Maharashtra, Assam, and Odisha, opposed any relaxation on the ban against airing new episodes. Calling the content of India’s Got Latent “not only vulgar but perverse,” Mehta urged the court to maintain restrictions. “Let him remain silent for some time,” he submitted.

The Bench, however, reminded Allahbadia’s counsel, senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, that fundamental rights come with limitations. “These youngsters may think we are outdated, but we know how to deal with them,” Justice Surya Kant remarked, cautioning against taking the court lightly.

Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, faces multiple FIRs for remarks on parents and sex made during comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. On February 18, the top court, while granting him interim relief, had described his comments as “vulgar” and accused him of having a “dirty mind.”

While allowing The Ranveer Show to continue, the court prohibited any discussion related to the case. It also declined Allahbadia’s request to travel abroad, stating it would consider the plea after he fully cooperates with the investigation.

Additionally, the Centre was directed to draft a regulatory framework for social media content, seek public input, and present it for review.
