New Delhi, 15 January 2025: The Supreme Court directed the Punjab government to provide the health report of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite fast for 51 days, to the central government. The health report will be reviewed by the AIIMS Medical Board as per the court’s instructions.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotishwar Singh expressed surprise over claims that Dallewal’s health has improved despite the prolonged hunger strike. The Punjab government recently reported a slight improvement in his condition following earlier concerns about his deteriorating health.

The court has mandated the Punjab Chief Secretary to submit Dallewal’s health report to the Supreme Court Registrar, who will then seek the opinion of the AIIMS Medical Board. The ongoing fast, which highlights farmer demands, has raised significant concerns over Dallewal’s well-being.
