New Delhi, April 1: The Supreme Court will reconsider Ranveer Allahbadia’s request to release his passport in two weeks, after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that the ongoing probe against him would be completed within that timeframe.
Allahbadia, facing multiple FIRs over his controversial “parents’ sex” remark on India’s Got Latent, submitted an undertaking in court pledging to uphold decency on The Ranveer Show. His lawyer, senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, presented the document, complying with the court’s directive.
However, Chandrachud urged the court to modify its condition restricting Allahbadia’s travel, arguing that it directly impacted his livelihood. “He conducts interviews abroad, often requiring multiple meetings before the final recording,” he mentioned. The bench, however, noted that allowing travel could interfere with the investigation.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had barred Allahbadia from releasing content related to his sub-judice cases and expanded the proceedings to direct the Centre to draft a regulatory framework for social media content. It had also granted him interim protection from arrest in February but called his remarks “vulgar” and his mindset “dirty.”
On March 3, the court permitted him to resume his podcast under the condition of maintaining “morality and decency.”
