Patiala, April 9: A wave of panic hit Patiala on Thursday morning after several prominent educational institutions received bomb threats via email, prompting a large-scale security response from the district police. Among the schools targeted were Yadavindra Public School (YPS), Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Patiala, and Apolo Public School.
Upon receiving the alerts, police teams were immediately dispatched to the affected campuses to oversee the safe evacuation of students and staff. DSP Satnam Singh stated that the priority was to clear the buildings and ensure all children were sent home safely. The sudden closure led to initial chaos as anxious parents rushed to the schools to collect their children following the emergency notifications.
The incident occurred while Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria was in the city for an event at Punjabi University, leading authorities to conduct a particularly rigorous probe. SP (Investigation) Gurbans Bains confirmed that teams are currently combing the school premises to verify the authenticity of the threats. Bains noted that this marks the third instance of such emails being sent to local schools in recent months, affirming that the matter is being monitored at a high level.
“Our teams are looking into the source of the email and are maintaining a strict vigil across all institutions,” a senior police official maintained. While search and combing operations remain underway, officials asserted that ample personnel have been deployed to ensure public safety. The police maintained that a detailed investigation is being carried out to identify those responsible for the recurring threats.
