Chandigarh, Feb 17: A fresh audit of the security requirements for Bikram Singh Majithia has been ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court following claims of heightened threats against the senior politician. The court has requested that the Chief Secretary of Punjab, in coordination with the Director-General of Police, file an affidavit regarding the matter.
The directive comes after the petitioner’s legal team informed the bench that despite being granted bail by the Supreme Court recently, the dangers to his life remain significant. They cited specific communications from central intelligence agencies regarding potential plots by terrorist groups.
“The state and the Centre should undertake a fresh assessment in view of continuing risks,” the counsel maintained. They pointed out that a previous court order in 2025 had already acknowledged a high threat level based on Ministry of Home Affairs data.
While the Punjab government maintained that the leader is “adequately protected” with his current detail of house guards and escorts, officials affirmed they would cooperate with a formal reassessment. The Union government similarly stated it was not averse to conducting a new study of the situation.
The court has prioritized the confidentiality of these findings, declaring that the reports must be presented in a sealed cover to the bench. Justice Puri declared that the state must ensure the leader is protected without lapse until the court reviews the updated reports next month.
The matter has been adjourned, with the court expecting a comprehensive overview of the safety protocols and potential risks involved.
